We are a month into summer, and I feel like I am running out of activities to keep my little guy entertained. Or maybe that I have so many ideas, we don’t know what to do! I wanted to share some fun activities that we’ve done that are budget-friendly too! Our city has a slew of fun things to do, and most of them are free. We have done some of them and still have activities to do.

While I do think it is a good idea for kids to be bored sometimes, I know that when we are able to do something then there is less whining. This list is some ideas that we are able to enjoy in the summer. They are either free or budget-friendly if you can plan ahead!

1. Play at the Park

Parks are great! You can go explore nature, play games, or play at a playground in the park. I have this park scavenger hunt that I will bring with us when we are going for walks. They keep my little guy engaged and into the nature walk.

2. Wash the Car

If you have a hot day, like we’ve had, then doing a car wash is a great way to cool down. Now, the car might not get the best wash, but it will be a great way to keep the kids occupied. I remember washing my parents and sometimes grandparents’ cars in the summer so I would stay cool.

3.Lemonade Stand

If you have a small table or a folding table, then the kids can set up a lemonade stand! There isn’t much needed to have one: a table, a pitcher, lemonade, and cups! The kids will have a great time!

4. Swim

If you have access to a pool, take advantage! Our neighbor has one, so do grandma and grandpa! We can head over to Grandma and Grandpa’s house whenever we want to swim! We are able to spend time together and play around in the water.

5. Go Golf

Now, this may take some planning. You may need to book a tee time, and this will cost money to do. But if you can get the kids to go golfing, this is a great way to spend some quality time together as a family.

6. Garden

Teach the kids about growing things at home, even if it is a flower garden. My little guy loves to get his hands dirty and play in the dirt. He also likes to help in the garden and help prune my plants and vegetables.

7. Head to the Zoo

Our city has a great zoo that we can get into for free. We have a yearly membership and we can go as much as we want. We don’t have to go for an entire day, and we can pack our lunch to eat there as well.

8. Check out a Local Sporting Event

We have a minor league baseball team in our city, and we love to go to games. It’s not that expensive to go and we can plan to eat a meal before to save money at the game. It’s a joy to watch the kids enjoy the game.

9. Local Festival

There are so many festivals that happen during the summer. They are typically free to get into, and may cost money for things at the event. The different options to do at events can range from a variety of interests for kids, so it’s best to do research for your area festivals.

10. Water fun at home

Grab a slip n slide, a sprinkler, water balloons, like these reusable ones, or just a hose. There are a ton of options to do at home that can help cool you down.

These are some fun ideas to let kids enjoy the summer and have the family spend time together! If you’ve done any of these or have your own activities you do, please feel free to comment and share them below. Check out more posts here.
